Stop 5: The Arch
This arch leads to the beautiful rose garden that has over a 100 different varieties of roses, all of which can be grown in Southeastern North Carolina.
Question:
Grade Level: 4th
Looking at this arch, would you say that it is symmetrical or asymmetrical? If it is symmetrical how any lines of symmetry do you see? Does this arch have parallel or perpendicular lines? Or both? Can you find at least one right angle?
Directions to Stop 6:
To get to the next stop, walk through the arch and make a right. Then take the first exit you see that will be on your right. Once you are at the exit make a left and take two steps before stopping. Stop 6 will be easy to miss, so do yourself a favor and make sure you check your feet!
Standards:
4.G.2 Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.
4.G.3 Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
